Our Guide to a Productive Workday
Some days it’s hard to get into the zone. The to-do list is long, your inbox won’t stop filling up, and you’ve already forgotten what you sat down to do. We have all been there!
At Gusto House, we’ve built a space that helps you to focus. Whether you’re working alone, part of a team, or building something brand new, productivity is about more than just ticking boxes. Productivity is about working with intention, taking meaningful breaks, and having the right environment around you.
Here are a few ideas to help you make the most of your workday either here at Gusto House or at your home office.
Start Your Day With a Bit of Clarity
The first moments of your day matter more than you think, before jumping straight into your emails or chasing company notifications, take a moment to get clear on what’s important.
Write your plan, not just your list: Note down 3–5 things you really want to get done within your workday. Be realistic, you don’t need to sign off massive projects, just keep it simple.
Ease into it: Whether it’s a nice coffee, a quick walk, or your go-to playlist in your ears, give your brain space to get into work mode.
Don’t skip breakfast: It’s the most important meal of the day for a reason! Your brain will thank you for something nourishing and especially if it’s not just caffeine and carbs.
Create Space to Focus
We’ve all lost hours during our workday thanks to distractions that don’t feel like distractions at the time. Here’s how to protect your focus:
Try time blocking: Allocate blocks of time for one task at a time. This stops you from attempting to multitask, no bouncing between tabs. Maybe try setting a timer to help you focus and get that important task done!
Silence the noise: Mute non-essential notifications. They add up more than you think. Your Instagram notifications will still be there when you’ve finished all your work.
Choose your workspace wisely: Whether it’s one of our quiet corners, a private office, or a sunny desk by the window, everyone is different, so find the spot that suits you and the task in hand.
Breaks Are Part of the Work
There is an element of guilt when it comes to taking a break, but there shouldn’t be. You’re not a machine! Productivity doesn’t mean working flat-out, it means working well.
Move around: Take a walk around the office, stretch, or step outside. You’ll come back with a clearer mind.
Step away from your screen: Chat to someone in the kitchen, grab a coffee, or just look out the window. Little resets help more than you realise.
Stay hydrated and nourished: Keep water nearby and don’t wait until you're running on empty to eat.
End on a Good Note
Finishing well sets you up for a better tomorrow!
Look back before you log off: Tick off what you’ve done and make a note of what’s next.
Tidy your space: A quick clear-up means you’re not greeted by yesterday’s chaos in the morning.
Switch off properly: Shut the laptop, silence the work emails, and give your brain permission to rest.
At Gusto House, we’re not just about giving you a desk. Instead, we’re here to help you work well, feel good, and stay balanced. So next time you’re in, give a few of these tips a try. You might just finish the day feeling more focused, more fulfilled, and maybe even a little ahead of the game.
